Postnatal Yoga classes are a great way to nurture yourself in the months after giving birth.
The postnatal period can be a time of great elation or deep anxiety and most women will veer between the two – sometimes on a daily basis. Getting out of the house, building physical strength and confidence, and spending time with other mums in a friendly supportive environment, are all really beneficial to a new mum.
The Better Birth Company Postnatal Yoga classes focus on you, the new mum, but you are very welcome to bring your baby along (and most people do). They can sleep, or feed, or lie beside you on the mat, giving you precious bonding time whilst you practise.
The focus of the class is on your postnatal recovery; repairing and strengthening the core (abdominal muscles, back and pelvic floor), easing tension in the neck, back and shoulders, realigning the spine and pelvis, and strengthening the glutes – plus boosting flagging energy!
Just as important as the yoga is the sense of community the class builds, we go to lunch after week two so everyone can get to know each other and again at the end of the course. There’s a WhatsApp group to stay in contact and usually the mums get together for coffee each week.
The classes provide strength, relaxation, confidence and friendship – things all new mums need!
Information about the classes
The class is suitable from 6 weeks after birth, or 12 weeks after a caesarean section. Classes are relaxed, friendly and fun – and are a great way to meet new mums in your area.
